Morisawa Type Design Competition 2012

Entry Guideline

Please read these guidelines below before the application.

Eligibility

The competition is open to any individual, group or nationality.

Entry Categories

- Kanji category
- Latin category

  • Either or both categories may be chosen. There is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant.

Award Categories

Morisawa Award

Entry works are to be judged for creativity and excellence of design.

Entry to Morisawa Award is essential.

Akashi Award

Entry works are to be judged for typeface designs appropriate for commercialization by Morisawa Inc.

Production of a prize-winning typeface will proceed under the conditions of the entry guideline.

Entry to the Akashi Award is optional.

Peopleʼs Choice

The general public is invited to cast a vote for a favorite entry work online starting in the middle of October.

Entry to the Peopleʼs Choice is optional.

Awards

Morisawa Award

Winners receive a testimonial, a trophy and a sub-prize money.

- Kanji category (one winner each):
Gold Prize; JPY 1 million
Silver Prize; JPY 500,000
Bronze prize; JPY 300,000
- Latin category (one winner each):
Gold Prize; JPY 1 million
Silver Prize; JPY 500,000
Bronze prize; JPY 300,000

Akashi Award

Winners receive a testimonial, a trophy and a sub-prize money.

- Kanji category:
JPY 1 million (one winner)
- Latin category:
JPY 1 million (one winner)

Peopleʼs Choice

Winners receive a testimonial, a trophy and a gift.

- Kanji category:
Highest number and 2nd highest number of votes
- Latin category:
Highest number and 2nd highest number of votes

Design Format

Download the application guideline(the competition entry rules and the design format) in this website.
Submitted designs must conform to the format specifications for the respective category:
Sheet 1 – 4 for Kanji category, and Sheet A – C for Latin category.

How to Enter

Entry should be made on this website.
Registration and entry submission will open at 10:00 AM, July 2, 2012(JST).
Entry works must be submitted in a PDF file. No actual pieces sent by mail are accepted.
No entry fee is charged.

  1. (1) Register on the official website.
  2. (2) Obtain an entry ID and mark it on your entry work.
  3. (3) Submit entry works in a PDF file.

Submission Period

Entries must be submitted during the period starting on July 2 through September 30, 2012(JST).

Announcement of Results

October 26th, 2012 (as planned)

Winners will be notified by e-mail, and publicly announced on both competition official website and Morisawa corporate website.
