Message from Sara Soskolne, Latin Category Judge

 Sara Soskolne (Judges’ page)

The practice of drawing type is an exacting but infinitely rewarding one. And even though a great many solitary hours may go into the crafting of a typeface, it is a task never truly undertaken in isolation: its ultimate purpose is to be shared, to give form to a common language, to shape communication.

As typeface designers, we always have a context in mind for our work. Although it may be undertaken out of a private impulse, a design only begins to come into its own when it finally enters the world and speaks to the eyes of others. So it is with great pleasure that we look forward to seeing what our fellow typeface designers will choose to share with us this year, and it will be a privilege to share some of those with a much wider world.
