Message from Matthew Carter, Latin Category Judge

 Matthew Carter (Judges’ page)

The 2016 Morisawa Type Design Competition is the third in the new series. This year I hope the momentum of the 2012 and 2014 competitions will produce an even larger number of entries of even higher quality.

Since it was relaunched in 2012 the Morisawa Competition has established itself as the premier international event in both the Japanese and Latin categories. It provides the best showcase for students and professionals to put their type designs in front of a wide audience, and to compete for generous cash prizes and excellent publicity. It amounts to a biennial overview of the state of the art. Because of the high quality of the entries it is always a challenge for the judges to decide on the winners, but we look forward to the task and take very seriously our responsibility to reward the very best new type designs, whether they are display faces or text types, single styles or families―all are welcome. The organizers and the judges warmly invite you to take part to make the 2016 Competition the most exciting one so far. Show us what you’ve got.
