The Morisawa Type Design Competition is a rare platform, where the work of students and professionals meet. Matured designs and promising proposals from all over the world challenge one another in Latin and Japanese categories through versatility, craft, novel ideas.
The 2014 Morisawa competition was my first one as a judge for the Latin entries. I am delighted to return to this year’s edition by joining once again a team of outstanding judges.
For us, the judges, there is nothing else to go for than the sheer quality of the design. We face all entries in their most pure form – black and white – stripped of everything that would drive us away from their essence. The process is nothing less than blindfolded wine tasting – the air is filled with concentration and full respect for every single entry.
And so I am wholeheartedly encouraging you to participate in the 2016 edition of Morisawa Type Design Competition. If you believe your type design is genuine, fresh, or just strikingly plain, put aside your doubts or fear. Give it a chance to compete with the rest of the world in a contest that stands for utmost dedication and quality, and with a reputation that is truly hard to beat.
