It’s now been about a quarter century since the two fonts Morisawa Hoso-Mincho and Chu-Gothic were first loaded onto Apple Macintosh computers, marking the beginning of the current era where absolutely everyone has access to fully equipped fonts. At the time, I really wanted a Gothic font that I could use for headings, and I remember thinking how it would be great to have a variation of Mincho. Now there are millions of choices. We have so many high-quality digital fonts available that it’s literally a different world. So what is the purpose of creating new fonts when there are so many out there? Why make new characters? We’d like to see fonts that reflect the answers to these questions. We look forward to it!
