From 1984 to 2002, Morisawa Inc. held the “The Morisawa Awards International Typeface Design Competition” every three years on seven occasions. With awards given to excellent type design by a jury of internationally renowned designers such as Ikko Tanaka, Adrian Frutiger, and Matthew Carter, the competition gained high acclaim as a gateway for type designers.
From 2012, Morisawa changed its competition name to “Type Design Competition” and established new awards: Akashi Award and Fan Favorite Award. As an internationally opened typeface competition, we will continued to seek typeface designers with new expressive capacity, bold ideas and new attempts.
